Refuge Ellena-Soria – Refuge Genova

Short but attractive hike in the heart of the Argentera Parc: apart from the beauties of the landscape, it is a faunistic itinerary that in the Occidental Alps can be compared only to the Gran Paradiso Park, given the likelihood of encountering chamois, ibex (colle di Fenestrelle) and marmots.

From the Ellena-Soria refuge you descend to the Piano del Prajet until the large boulder, take a MIO path on the right which climbs with gentle and pleasant bends, finally narrower and with a final flat traverse reaches the Fenestrelle hill 2463 m; 2.00 hours. Already during the climb you can admire the Gelas glacier, the southernmost of the Alps. The descent into the Vallone della Rovina presents no problems, given the obviousness of the path: however, the snowfield must be crossed carefully which sometimes persists even late in the season, on which, however, there is no shortage of traces of frequent passages. You go down a bit with traverses halfway up the hill and a bit with steep hairpin bends (there is also a short ascent), with a grandiose panorama towards the Argentera massif. After following the last bends of the path towards Lake Chiotas, which has now passed from the stony ground onto grassy terrain, you reach the road and follow it towards the left. up to the Genova refuge 2020 m; 1.00 hour.
